Christmas Wish List
STEP ONE
- Make a post to your LJ locked or otherwise. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for Such and such on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas/Yule/Kwanzaa/Channukah is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you. [Note: Your home address is not required!]
- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ so that the holiday joy will spread.
STEP TWO
-Surf around your friends list (or friend's friend's, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream pure bred Basset Hound for free--do it.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call. There are no guarantees with this project, and no strings attached. Just... wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive.
And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

Do you know much about how to repair laptops? I've got a Toshiba that's barely a year old, Windows Vista Home Premium, and I can't remember all the data, but at least a GB of RAM and I think the harddrive has 100 GB. I bought it while Dad was hospitalized during Thanksgiving of last year and he wanted something to keep him occupied. The only problem is that there's a bad connector (I and a couple of computer-techy friends think) and it can't really power on. It'll try, and there's a "click" while it starts booting up, and sometimes if you tilt the laptop, it gets the power it needs (and it does sound like there's something loose in there). It's going to need someone to open it up to repair it I'm sure. Either way, I'd be willing to send it to you whenever you get to your new location. The kiddo played around on it a lot and managed to put in, like, 4 other user accounts. I don't usually let him have free reign on a computer like that, but it was while Dad was sick and the days I took care of both of them at the same time it was a huge help as far as keeping him occupied. The only thing I'd ask is that any personal files be sent back to me, though I don't believe Dad ever put any pictures on there or anything (I could get a flash drive to send with it and you mail that back or some other way - I can even provide the shipping on that if necessary).
I can't guarantee that it's something you could repair, but it's worth a shot and I don't really need it as I'll be buying a new desktop for the kiddo and myself here and I've already got my own laptop that it's great condition. It needs a home and I'd rather it go to someone I know who can get good use out of it.
